Nomadic Baskets
About nomadic basket
Nomadic baskets is the brand name of the baskets and mats woven by the Ngurunit Basket Weavers Association. PEAR Innovations partners with Ngurunit Basket Weavers Association to market and sell the baskets and mats in order to provide increased income opportunities for the women. Ngurunit is a small village based in Northern Kenya. Home to the Samburu and Rendille tribes. The art of basket weaving has been practiced for hundreds of years by the two tribes. The original baskets were used for camel milking. Today the women at Ngurunit Basket Weavers have been able to create a diverse collection of baskets that are both beautiful and useful for the modern household. The baskets are woven out of natural Doum palm.
Our collections run a full spectrum of artful design-from simple and unconstructed to adorned and detailed. The underlying element that binds them all together is our distinct unique, tight weave that produces a finished basket or mat of unparalleled durability and beauty.
We offer two specific collections with a third option of one of a kind baskets. The baskets and mats are made according to the dimensions requested by the customer.
